Our Mission
Aside from being a gorgeous and extremely fragrant flower, the Peony is a symbol of a good life, a happy marriage, and prosperity. Green Peony is a website/blog for everyday people who want to live a happy, healthy, and green lifestyle–without hugging trees. (Not that there’s anything wrong with hugging a tree now and then.)
On subjects ranging from home and garden, to food and recipes, to our very own DIY “recycle it” projects; our philosophy is to deliver thought provoking and informational articles, tips, and reviews that help others to live the best life they can.
Our goal is to develop and maintain an interactive online community for like minded individuals to share their own ideas and stories. Stop by our forums, introduce yourself, and ask or answer a question.
With a focus on home life, healthy eating, parenting, and organic gardening; we hope to help you and your family live a Happier Green Lifestyle!
Founder
Ruth Smith is a writer, artist, organic gardener, and mother to two crazy boys. (Three if you count the one she’s married to.) She has a BFA in Graphic Design from the Massachusetts College of Art and has held jobs ranging from working on a farm in Maine at the age of eleven, to working at an Advertising firm in Boston, to working as a teacher, as well as a brief stint as an independent wine consultant.
As the mother of a child with multiple life threatening food allergies and with family members on the autistic spectrum, Ruth has discovered how the environment and what you eat has an immediate and long term impact on your body, health, and well being-not to mention the earth as well.
(If you have a friend or family member with environmental or food allergies please visit Best Allergy Sites; the largest directory of allergy web sites and blogs on the Internet, founded and edited by Ruth.)
Her passions involve anything that have to do with working with her hands, buying local, as well as reading, learning, and mastering new things. Her goal is to live a more independent, simple, and sustainable life; and to help others to do the same.
Ruth lives in a small and quaint New England town with her husband, two sons and Wheaten Terrier Finley.
